Bangkok Art & Culture — Exhibitions, Gallery Openings & Cultural Events

Bangkok's art scene has exploded over the last decade. The Bangkok Art & Culture Centre (BACC) anchors the city's contemporary-art calendar; MOCA holds the country's most serious private modern-art collection; Charoenkrung (Bangkok's designated Creative District) hosts a revolving cast of independent galleries inside warehouses and old shophouses; and cultural venues like the Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC), Warehouse 30, and BAB (Bangkok Art Biennale) fold fashion, design, photography and performance into the mix. This page tracks every art and culture event we find across Bangkok, updated daily: gallery openings, solo and group exhibitions, museum shows, design fairs, theater and classical performances, film screenings at the Friese-Greene Club, and the Thailand Biennale when it's in town. Scroll on for this week's lineup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Bangkok galleries host the best exhibitions?

Bangkok's top contemporary galleries include 100 Tonson (Ploenchit), Nova Contemporary, Bangkok CityCity Gallery, and Tang Contemporary. For museum-scale shows, check BACC, MOCA Bangkok and MAIIAM (Chiang Mai but often co-exhibits in Bangkok). The Charoenkrung Creative District holds dozens of smaller independents.

When does the Bangkok Art Biennale (BAB) happen?

The Bangkok Art Biennale (BAB) runs every two years, typically October through February, across multiple venues including BACC, ICONSIAM, Wat Pho and Wat Arun. The next edition's opening dates are announced ~6 months ahead. Many BAB installations remain free to the public.

Are Bangkok museums free?

Many are free or low-cost. BACC is free. The Museum of Siam charges 100 THB for non-Thais. MOCA Bangkok is 250 THB. The Jim Thompson House is 200 THB. Most national museums charge around 100–200 THB. Weekly free admission days exist at some venues — check each museum's site for details.

Where is Bangkok's Creative District?

Bangkok's Creative District is centered on Charoenkrung Road along the Chao Phraya River, stretching from Asiatique up past Si Phraya pier. The area concentrates design studios, independent galleries, warehouse-converted art spaces (Warehouse 30, TCDC) and speakeasy-style cafes. Best explored on foot or by river boat.

What performing arts can I see in Bangkok?

Bangkok has a mature performing-arts scene: the Thailand Cultural Centre hosts the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, and international ballet and opera. Independent theaters like Crescent Moon, Democrazy Theatre Studio and Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts run experimental Thai theater. Traditional khon (masked dance) performances run at the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre.
